I have now been in Germany for over a month and I can’t
believe how quickly time has flown! I’m going home in less than 2 weeks for the
mid-semester week off! Things have been getting steadily better and better and
to be honest, German life grows on me daily : ) I have managed to get myself into a really nice group
of girls here. Like the most international group of friends ever! There's a
mixture of students, language assistants and aupairs who live in the city, and
we're from Ireland, Scotland, England, Spain, Sweden, Russia, Germany,
Ukraine.. I think that's all! haha most of them have been here since
August/September so all know each other pretty well, but they've just pretty
much adopted me! I’ve done quite a few
things with them over the last couple of weeks...
They’ve been showing me their favourite places to go
out, eat and have coffee/brunch in Braunschweig.. good times. Me and the two
English assistants (Lindsay and Laura) who also study French when to see the
French film ‘Les Intouchables’, I’ve already seen it, but it’s so good! We also
went to the cinema and I saw my first German film in Germany (well American film
dubbed over in German!). We also went to see a football match; the last one of
the season for the local team.. football’s really big here – this city is the
home of German football apparently! Obviously essential cultural viewing lol. It
was hilarious.. actually a pretty good game, we won : ) it made me want to play
football again!
I’ve just realised, I haven’t actually mentioned much
about what Braunschweig is like yet.. The city is beautiful.. a similar size to
York – not too small, not too big : ) it’s pretty good for shopping and has
loads of independent cafes/restaurants so it’s exciting to try new places! It
also has 2 Starbucks for good measure – win for life.
