Can’t believe it’s the 6th November already.. where has the time gone?! So I am back to school now after the half term break and to be honest after a couple of hours of teaching, I kind of felt like as if I’d never been away! I had such a lovely week-and- a-bit back in the UK.. it was so good to see so many familiar faces after living in foreign lands for a month and a bit! I set off on the Eurostar from Calais on Saturday morning; I couldn’t believe how quick it was. I was in Aimée’s (one of my best friends from school) room in Cambridge about 3 and a half hours after leaving my room in France.. mental. The first thing we did after having an epic hug and catch up, was go and have a full English breakfast in a cafe.. it was amazing, and exactly what I needed after travelling and craving bacon and proper sausages for the past month! I stayed for 2 nights in Cambridge, which included having a ‘dinner party’ in Aimée’s room with some of the Newnham girls, an epic Primark shopping trip, watching films, general shopping joy, amazing pub Sunday dinner of sausage and mash, and church. Very good times :) you can tell Aimée got lots of work done :P From there I went to Reading to stay with Hannah (my old housemate) for a night, which was also lovely. A little bizarre visiting someone you used to live with in York, in Reading, where she now lives and works, but lovely all the same. I hadn’t seen/spoken to her properly since June so we had lots to catch up on! Then on Tuesday morning I trained-it up to York, which meant navigating the tubes and trains in London for the second day in a row, but I managed alright! My time in York consisted of; fitting as many coffee/lunch/dinner catch-ups in as humanly possible, most of which were bought for me; win, making the most of UK clothes shopping joy, raiding Morrisons for all the food I missed most, family times with my aunt, uncle and cousins, church; it was so good to be home and see lots and lots of new faces, my friends pulling off yet another surprise with a welcome back to York party and seeing lots and lots of my favourite people. All in all I’d say it was one of my favourite weeks ever, anyone who knows me will know that a week full of coffees and catching up with lovely people is pretty much a dream :)
After such epic holiday times it was weird and a bit difficult to come back to my little room and my French life, which is pretty different to my life in York. But once I had my first day back to school and saw everyone again, it didn’t seem so bad! I’ve actually had a really lovely first weekend back, pretty relaxing, but filled with plenty of people and good food. I went for dinner at one of the English teacher’s (Françoise) houses for dinner on Friday night, the other younger English teacher, who I went go-carting with, invited me round on Saturday night for dinner with her and some friends. I had church this morning, which was lovely – good to see everyone again.. they were all like, “we were wondering where you’ve been the past few weeks”! Bless them.. I love that I’ve only been 3 times and yet they notice when I’m not there :) This afternoon one of the other Comenius assistants, who I met at the training day in London over summer, came to visit me. She lives about an hour away from me, in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere! It was so nice to see her; I showed her some of the sights, did some exciting touristy things in the rain and again, good food was involved, of course! So I’m going to bed a happy girl with a full stomach :P thanks again to everyone I saw over the holidays, it’s so wonderful to have so much support from everyone.. I love you all! Back to a full proper week of teaching for me, starting at 8 tomorrow morning.. joy.
